Paramedics battled to save 20-year-old
Brayden Erbacher, a promising 20-year-old motocross rider from Ipswich, Queensland, has tragically died after a crash during the opening round of the ProMX Championship in Wonthaggi, Victoria, on Sunday morning.
Erbacher was competing in the MX2 class when he crashed heavily on the second lap of the race. He was treated by on-site medical teams before being airlifted to The Alfred hospital in Melbourne, where he later died from his injuries.
Erbacher's death has sent shockwaves through the motocross community. He was a rising star in the sport, having won the Australian Junior Motocross Championship in 2019 and finishing fourth in the MX2 class of the Australian Motocross Championship last year.
Erbacher's family and friends have paid tribute to him as a talented rider and a wonderful young man.
"Brayden was a beautiful soul who loved riding his bike," said his father, Craig Erbacher. "He was always smiling and always up for a challenge. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him."
The ProMX Championship has been suspended following Erbacher's death. The next round of the championship is scheduled to take place in Murray Bridge, South Australia, on April 24.
